On 10,11 and 12 octobre 2004 the 2nd ParAgility World Cup 2004 ( PAWC), the world championship agility for disabled handlers, was held in Platja d’Aro, Spain.
This PAWC was together the 3e International Mix and Breed Championship Agility (IMCA), world championship agility for able-bodied handlers.
I entered the 2nd ParAgility World Cup with my black Labrador Retriever Quita.
We won two medals.
On the first and second day Quita was first, but on the last day she made two mistakes. We were 5th in the total results.
On the last day we were the last to run the course and came very close to becoming worldchampion again! When we made the first mistake I thought: it won’t be easy to become world champion. With the second mistake I knew we couldn’t win anymore. Of course I’m very proud of my dog Quita and very happy with her results.
The 1st PAWC 2002 took place in Hungary and 11 dogs took part. The 2st PAWC 2003 we had 17 competitors and the number of competitors for the 3e PAWC 2004 in Austria promises to be quite high! For the next PAWC Cup I have contacts with possible competitors, who are training enthousiastically with their dogs, from the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, but also from outside Europe, for instance from the U.S.A. and South Africa.
The publicity which Quita and I have gained for the possibility of agility for disabled handlers, by visiting matches and giving national and international demonstrations, is starting to show results. I’m very happy with this result and I hope to encourage a lot of disabled handlers to start practising this wonderful dog sport: AGILITY!
We shall go on training agility and preparing for the 3rd ParAgility World cup 2004 in Austria.
